FEMA OFFICIALS TO MAKE HOUSE CALLS TO FLOODED RESIDENCES

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials will be traveling door to door for the next few weeks explaining to residents who sustained flood damage from the September 13-14, 2008 storms how to register for relief. FEMA employees and volunteers will be handing out information and helping residents make sure they understand the process on how to register to possibly receive aid. Read More....

Leaves should be out by 7:00 am on Monday, November 24th.

LEAF COLLECTION GUIDELINES

	Leaves should be raked approximately 12 inches away from the curb, leaving room for rain to flow down the curb to an inlet.
	Leaves should be on the pavement – not in the ditch. If your street does not have curbs, line up your row of leaves on the pavement as close to the shoulder of the road as possible in order to leave maximum amount of street surface open for vehicles

Basement Protection Program

To assist with repairing or rehabilitating residential sanitary sewers, the Village of Palatine has established a variety of programs for our residents. The types of improvement covered under the program include:

	Sewer back-up check valves: Village to contribute 50% of cost to a maximum of $750.
	Conversion to overhead sewers: Village to contribute 50% of cost to a maximum $5,000.
	Disconnection of sewer footing drains: Village to contribute 50% of cost up to a maximum of $2,500.
	Replacement of sewer laterals in their entirety from home to sanitary main.
	Replacement or repairs of footing drains and/or window well drains.

FREEDOM FROM SMOKING

The Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) is offering Palatine residents Freedom From Smoking®, a no cost seven week program produced by the American Lung Association to provide the support and skills needed to quit smoking.

Classes will be held on Monday evenings during December 15, 2008 to January 26, 2009 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Palatine Village Hall, Meeting Room C, 200 E Wood Street.

A trained facilitator, who understands the unique challenges of quitting, will lead the sessions. Session topics include: Week 1 - On the Road To Freedom, Week 2 - Wanting to Quit, Week 3 - Quit Day, Week 4 - Winning Strategies, Week 5 - The New You, Week 6 - Staying Off, and Week 7 - Celebration!
